Each year, PTSA coordinates with the teachers at Smith to publish the list of school supplies required for each grade the following year. The items may then be purchased in convenient kits put together by EduKit. Parents may purchase these kits rather than having to buy items separately themselves.

Organizes volunteer support and snacks for the annual eye/hearing screenings held by the school in November of each school year. Parents are scheduled for hour-long slots over one school day during school hours.

Picture Day is twice a year- Organize volunteer support for those two days (in October and April/May) to help supervise kids as they go for pictures.

Room Parent Coordinator

RP Coordinator is a resource to guide all the room parents of different classrooms. Room parents (2 per classroom max) work with your classroom teacher to communicate with class parents about upcoming events/activities. They send out and keep the teachers favorite things list current, collect classroom funds, and help with classroom parties and the teacher. Details available under Volunteer-Volunteer Resources on the website main page.

The coordinator is a good role for parents in Grade 2 and onwards. low commitment and online mostly. Currently looking for volunteer who is willing learn the ropes by shadowing current chair.

Explore Art is a volunteer–based art program provided by the Samantha Smith PTSA to support our continued effort in encouraging students to develop their own creativity and divergent thinking. The main focus of Explore Art is to introduce a variety of art concepts, mediums, and artists while providing an opportunity to learn through exploration. Each class has 1-2 class leads who lead monthly art projects based on a schedule, concepts and material provided by the Art Program Chairs. During the later part of the year, they also put together the ArtWalk.

The PTSA is an organization of Parents, Teachers and Students working together with teachers and staff for the benefit our our students at Samantha Smith Elementary. The PTSA organizes volunteers, fundraises, advocates for children legislatively, funds many of the educational enrichment programs at school and more. Programs we provide include Nature Vision, Explore Art, Math Challenge, Health Screenings and Yearbook. We also host numerous social and educational activities throughout the year, including STEM Night, Winter Wonderland and International Night. Funds raised by the PTSA are used to conduct these programs and purchase supplies and equipment for the school.
