What is a 'Dolphin Dash'?
The dolphin is the school mascot, of course.  And, the Dolphin Dash is the largest fundraiser of the year.  It's a donation driven fundraising event where students collect donations tied to their participation in what has historically been a fun-run at school that we call the Dolphin Dash. The funds raised go to support enhanced educational experiences including field trips, teacher supplies, school events like the STEM Fair, teacher stipends, playground equipment, books for the library and much more!
Is Dolphin Dash Happening this year?
Yes! But, things will look a little different... For one thing, this year all students will receive a free Dolphin Dash themed t-shirt to show they participated in Dolphin Dash! Attendance at the event will be optional as it is being held after school, rather than during the lunch recess. Students may choose to join in the run at the school on a pre-set route, or attend virtually and run at a location that suits their family. (More information on this, along with a route map, will be sent out in advance of the event.) Afterwards, we will celebrate our fundraising achievements with an outdoor, socially-distanced 'Glow' party called the 'Dolphin Bash'. Fundraising begins now and finishes the day of the Bash. Students raise money via donations from parents, grandparents etc. to earn prizes for themselves and their classrooms. Parents submit corporate matching to their employer to increase donations. 
When is this all happening?
Sept. 17: Donation forms (for donating by check) and Dash information flier go home, and options open for online donations from parents of Smith students and online donations from non-parents.
Sept. 20-Oct. 1: Return your donation forms to school (only needed for donations made by personal check).
Sept. 27- Oct. 1: Spirit week!!!
MONDAY: Super hero day
TUESDAY: Crazy hair day
WEDNESDAY: Rainbow day
THURSDAY: Dolphin-Dash t-shirt day (see below)
FRIDAY: Neon day
Sept. 30: ALL students and staff will receive their free Dolphin Dash t-shirt (supported in part by our sponsors, printed on the back) and will have a class pic at school with Danny the Dolphin!
Sept. 30:  AFTER SCHOOL DOLPHIN DASH We will send home a course map (off campus) & have signs, decorations & picture opportunities marking the path for students to run after school (@ 4pm or whenever you choose) and end at the playground!  Send us your selfies!! (We are off campus to maintain safety and the spirit of the Dash. Masks required. 6 feet spacing is considered safe distance for outdoor activities. Smith PTSA policy for outdoor events.)

Oct. 1:  Dolphin GLOW Bash Party: 6-7pm (K-2), 7-8pm (3-5)  
Outside dance party at basketball area (wear your Dolphin Dash shirt, neon and a mask)
First 25 kids to arrive (in each of the 2 groups) will receive GLOW glasses!
Glow sticks, bracelets, necklaces and more will be given out at the Bash.
Masks are required.
Spots will be marked to encourage safe distancing.

What do the donations support? 
Teacher stipends, T-shirts for school, Surface Pros for students, Project Playground, Gaga Pit, YMCA recess playtime instructor, Field Trips, Nature Vision, Explore Art supplies, Class magazines, Assemblies, Read  Naturally, Student Council, Library resources, Recess board games, Student scholarships, & MORE!!

  • 2nd most donations in each grade get a treat with the assoc. principal, Mrs. Westra!
  • TOP PRIZE for highest donation: prize basket


Classroom Prizes:

Classes (K/1, 2/3, 4/5) with most donations get a BINGO PARTY! Teacher gets a personalized shirt
