November, 2018 Dear Smith Families,
The Samantha Smith playgrounds need replacement! The wooden structures are as old as the school – 30 years! In celebration of Samantha Smith Elementary School’s 30th Anniversary, a special committee of the Smith PTSA (Project Playground Team) has been created to raise funds totalling roughly $60,000 to replace the wooden play structure in the front of the school and the Kindergarten playground in the back of the school. We can’t do it without you! If each student donates $30 in honor of the 30th year of the school, we will be well on our way to funding the playground! If you can support with more, and add matching with your employer, we would be tremendously grateful! This is a one time ask! We will be hosting fundraising events throughout the fall and winter to raise funds! Please keep an eye out!! In the meantime, if you want to donate any amount via check (made out to “Samantha Smith PTSA"), please put it in the envelope sent home with your child and have your student return to school. The Kindergarten playground (above) is 30 years old and the wooden structure is also on its last year of life.
Replacement Possibilities:
We are in the beginning phases of meeting with vendors, working with the Lake Washington School District to determine viable and appropriate playground sets, and raising funds. Once we finalize a price and general design, we will be using the LWSD Playground Standards to offer the Smith Elementary students a choice in voting for their new playground! Stay tuned!
