Dear Smith Families, The Samantha Smith playgrounds need replacement! The wooden structures are old as the school – 30 years! In celebration of Samantha Smith Elementary School’s 30 th  Anniversary, a special committee of the Smith PTSA (Project Playground Team) has been created to raise funds totalling roughly  $60,000  to replace the wooden play structure in the front of the school and the Kindergarten playground in the back of the school. The Bellevue Downtown Association is featuring the region’s largest covered open-air ice skating experience (with real frozen water!). They will donate $3 to our PTSA for every paying Smith Elementary visitor during the program dates.  Any visit from  January 1-13, 2019  qualifies.  Just  make sure to tell them you're from Samantha Smith Elementary  at the ticket counter.  Admission (including skate rental) is $15/person, $10/person for ages eight and under. Emergency Preparedness committee update, August 2018 The PTSA Emergency Preparedness committee works with school leaders to help prepare for the event of an environmental disaster or campus lockdown during school hours.  With the support of the Smith PTSA, the goal is to  ensure that ALL students and staff have immediate access to necessary emergency supplies .  In previous years, students were asked to either buy a personal emergency supply kit or to build their own and bring it in to school.  These kits were then consolidated and stored in the classroom.  Since the items in the kits have a shelf-life ... read full article
